The Preston County Youth Center will be hosting "Youth Night Out" on the first Friday of each month from 6-8:30 PM. Youth of all ages can enjoy an evening of games, crafts, & dinner. In addition, if you are into cheerleading, an NFL cheerleader will be leading a cheer clinic during the event. This program allows parents to enjoy a quiet evening while the youth come hang out at the new Preston County Youth Center. For more information, please contact Lisa Fox at (304) 771-1060.
Just a reminder that if your child is vomiting and/or has other stomach-related symptoms, especially if accompanied by a fever, please do not send them to school. We presently have a 24-hour stomach virus making its way around the building, so to ensure our building stays healthy and more people avoid this, again, if your student has symptoms, please keep them home and send in a note, so that we can excuse them. Softball tryouts and practices will begin Monday at 4:00 in the gym at Terra Alta. Students interested will need to bring their physical if not already on file and ensure they have proof of insurance. Practice will end at 5:30.
Join us next week in celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday and National Read Aloud day as we have fun with Dr.Seuss books. Show your spirit by participating in each of our dress up days, beginning Monday with ‘Mismatched Socks.’

We will have final girl’s softball sign-ups this week, with tryouts being scheduled for next week beginning at 4 each day at the field by the school. Those players from Aurora will be able to be bussed over, but will have to be picked up after.

After School Explorers (ASE) is cancelled for today. Again, No ASE after school today. Also, there will be no A group Grasshoppers practice today from 6-7 with Middle School practicing at that time for their playoff game tomorrow.
Just a reminder that The Barnhill Animal Preserve will be coming to do a FREE animal show and learning experience for our students tomorrow, February 16th in the morning. There will be two shows, with grade levels being split to allow for adequate spacing and less noise for the animals. Students must have a permission slip to attend. Those were sent home Friday. , These need to be returned first thing tomorrow, if not already turned in today. Students have the option to purchase photos with the two animals or additional items, but this is not required. Please return the permission slips, along with money, if you're choosing to purchase. Any questions, please contact the school. Again, all students attending must at least have a permission slip to attend. If your child lost theirs, please send a note.
Attention 8th grade parents:
Friday, your child scheduled for high school courses for their freshmen year with the high school counselor. Please review the pre-registration form that your child completed today that was sent home with them. Once it is completed, both your child and you need to sign this form and return it to Mrs. Durst by Friday, February 18th. If you have any questions, please call the school counselor at the school! Preston County Schools will be closed for today, Monday, February 14th, & it’s a “Brain Freeze” day. Students do not report; however, all staff who have not yet reported will report on a 2-hour delay. Students & parents should check their Schoology or Seesaw accounts for assignments. Additional details on Brain Freeze days can be found at the following link: https://5il.co/14g0f. Project setup for the County Social Studies Fair will proceed tonight from 5-7 PM. Finally, the status of other extracurricular activities will be announced later today.
Preston County Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay for today, Monday, February 14th. Maintenance, mechanics, & custodians report on a regular schedule, and all other students and staff will report on a 2-hour delay.
With today being a Brain Freeze Day and being a curricular day, extra-curricular activities may proceed based on improving road conditions. Setup for the County Social Studies Fair will proceed as scheduled from 5-7 PM at the Craig Civic Center. The scheduled Preston High boys' & girls' basketball games will proceed as scheduled as well. In addition, all other high school or middle school athletic teams may practice this evening with practice schedules and times being communicated by individual coaches. However, shuttle buses will not run today. Finally, no ASE activities will occur at district schools this evening.
