Although our students' and schools' accomplishments are highlighted regularly through Facebook(s) and our PCS Website(s), PCS will now be compiling a highlight of events of an extended period, publishing quarterly. In previous years and editions, our print magazine was funded through additional federal funds we no longer receive. Moving forward, we will print one magazine each year through parent engagement funding, typically at the start of the year, containing important information, documents, and a calendar, but then will quarterly post a "Beat of Excellence Highlight" online.

With today's inclement weather day, PCS has decided not to adjust the dates that were more recently put back in place for a Spring Break, and will be using Friday, May 29th (Snow Make-Up Day) as the possible last day for students. This has no affect or change on PHS graduation. Teachers last day in the buildings will now be June 2nd. Also, with today's snow day, 3rd Grading Period Report Cards will now go out this Friday the 20th, as opposed to the 19th.

Attention Preston County Schools' 8th Graders: Today's previously scheduled Golden Horseshoe Test will now be conducted tomorrow, Wednesday March 18th.

Thales, the first Greek Mathematician and philosopher said, "Hope is the most universal of all human possessions."
More than 2,500 years later, we can also say that mathematics is one of the most universal human possessions.
Connecting hope and mathematics creates opportunities for deeper insight and knowledge. Mathematics gives us hope to understand reality and truth clearly, share common definitions, learn cooperation, use data responsibly, find win-win strategies, and more.
Even if you're just looking for an excuse to eat some pie, today is that day too.

PRESTON COUNTY SCHOOL CALENDAR UPDATE AND CHANGES:
Preston County Schools would like to provide an update related to our current year academic calendar. This will be reflected with an updated calendar on the county page later today. A waiver request of the 180-day requirement was submitted by Mr. Martin on March 6th for a waiver of (4) dates that were missed due to weather during the last week of January that were a part of the Governor's emergency declaration. The waiver has been approved. As a result, the last day of school for students will be Thursday, May 28th if the district has no additional snow days between now and the end of the school year. This will also allow Tuesday, April 7th to now be a day off of school for students and 200-day staff for an extended Easter Break as it was previously scheduled to be prior to the snow. If we have any snow days for the remainder of the year, announcements will be made on needed calendar adjustments.

PCS Students, the weather is beginning to look like "Sun's Out/Guns Out," Spring is around the corner, and time to chase the Winter Blues away and either maintain or improve your wellness. Announcing the week of March 16th and beginning on the first day of Spring, March 20th, students will be given wellness activities to participate in through May 1st. At that time, verification will be open via a forms and must be fully completed. Winners will be chosen at random from those completing the challenge, which will include verification of activities completed, and a brief summary of an overall wellness program, developed by the student, to continue throughout the Summer. Prizes awarded and delivered by May 8th. All of this made possible through grant-funding specifically for student wellness. If any local or area businesses are interested in sponsoring a staff challenge, please reach out to Justin Hough, PCS Director of Child Nutrition and Communications at jhough@k12.wv.us.
