October's menus are now available for parents and guardians to see their student's school's meal offerings next month. Tomorrow will be our final new item of the month, with most schools having Buffalo Chicken Pizza, while some, due to distribution issues, could be serving BBQ Chicken Pizza (also new to PCS). Following tomorrow's lunch, in the coming days, you will see a link to a survey. This survey will be used to help determine future menus and improve our feeding program and service to our students. If there are ever any questions, comments, or concerns, those can be directed to Justin Hough, Director of Child Nutrition at jhough@k12.wv.us or at 304-329-0580 x234.

Friday's lunch at TAEP will be BBQ pork sandwich, sidewinders with cheese, and cole slaw.
Good luck to our Lady Eagles volleyball this evening (Wednesday 9/18, 6 pm) at home against Suncrest!
Good evening. This is just a reminder to parents and guardians to either send in absence or doctor's notes upon their students return to school, or to utilize the online form which can be found on the main banner on the Preston County Schools website, or under documents on the app. Thank you.

9/11 Remembrance: We will never forget that twenty-three years ago, on September 11, 2001, at 8:46 am Eastern time, the United States of America came under attack from 19 Al-Qaeda Terrorists, as they crashed a jet filled with people into World Trade Center North Tower in New York City. At 9:03, a second jet struck the South Tower, and at 9:37 the Pentagon was hit by a third plane. At 9:59, the South Tower collapsed, and 8 minutes later, Flight 93 crashed in a field in Pennsylvania as passengers attempted to stop the terrorists who were headed for the White House or the Capital. At 10:28, the North Tower collapsed. 2996 people died that morning and in that 2-hour time span, the world as we once knew it, changed forever. It was the first time most of us did not feel safe in our own country and had no idea what would happen next. Brave men and women gave their lives to try to save others and it took months to clear the debris. If you ever have the chance to visit New York City, take the time to visit the 9/11 memorial and museum. It is a life changing experience. As we observe our moments of silence today, please take the time to remember the events of 9/11. Twenty-Three years later, there are still thousands of families affected by the tragedy. And even though you might not realize it, your lives changed that day, even for our students not yet born. Today, let's all take a moment or moments of silence, remember and reflect. Always Remember. Never Forget.

Good evening Preston County. Today, all students, grades 4-8, were given a letter explaining how to retrieve their state testing results from this past May. The letter includes both a link to the detailed score report and a video. Please take the time to review these and go over them with your student. Thank you.

Good evening. The changes from the WV Department of Ed on attendance, Policy 4110, as it relates to excused and unexcused absences, has been posted and updated on the county site, as well as an informational graphic has been posted to answer any questions. Again, PCS operates with complete adherence to state policies.

Good evening Eagle families. This is Principal Lynnette Ryan. The school year is now well under way and we have a lot happening at East. The first local school improvement council (LSIC) meeting will be held Wednesday 9/11/24 at 5 pm in the library. Also that same evening, our new Band Director Mr. Salisbury will hold a band parents meeting at 6:30 pm. Last week a letter about the changes to the state wide attendance policy and our PCS attendance tracker document came home with students. This week we will send home information about how to review your student's state testing results - WVGSA (WV General Summative Assessment). Please remember if you are coming to campus to pick up a student, for a meeting, to volunteer, etc. you must bring a government issued ID. Also, if you are dropping off students in the morning please pull forward and have your children quickly exit the vehicle so that we can keep the line moving. If you need additional time please pull out of the drop off line and into a parking spot. On Tuesday 9/17/24 our K - 5 students will receive information about our new Terra Alta East Girl Scout Troop. The troop leader will be Brenda Layton and the first meeting will be held on Thursday 9/19/24. Please look for more information to come home on the 17th and a reminder call will also go out the first of the week next week. Our Lady Eagles volleyball team is on the road this week for two games. Good luck ladies! We're proud of you! Anyone interested in purchasing spirit ware may do so online through Affordable Signs. Our sale will end this Friday 9/13. There are many offerings available. Make sure to purchase yours today! This week at East we're remembering 9/11 with a moment of silence on the anniversary, learning more about our character trait of the month - organized, and finishing up our beginning of the year diagnostic testing. Thank you to all the Eagles who are already soaring high this year and to all the families and staff who are helping to make it a great year! Have a wonderful evening.
We love our local businesses and how much they support our students. Cecilia's Macarons & Sweets and Sugar Plum's Bakery recently collected school supplies for Preston County Schools. We can't thank you all enough.

Next week, we will be featuring a NEW menu item for lunch, MOZZARELLA STICKS on Tuesday, the 10th. Be sure to try these, and then vote when the next survey comes out if you'd like to keep them as a regular menu item.

This week's #PrestonCountyReads focus is phonics. Use the # to share your use of the tip. Keep reading Preston County.

Good evening PCS. If your student is absent, please submit an absence note online. You can find the form under documents under the county page or app, or you can click the link on the county or individual school websites. Doctors slips will need sent in upon return for verification if that's the reason selected. Thanks

Good evening, Preston County families ,
Today your student should have come home with an attendance letter and chart to monitor their absences at home. Any absence is a loss of instruction. We want all of our students present, engaged, and to be successful!
Over the next several days, you will see updated Policy 4110, attendance information, via social media and our county website. Stay informed, talk with your student, and reach out for assistance from your student's administrators and/or student support team!
We are here for your kids and attendance is KEY!

Due to this evening's Home Varsity Football Opener, the evening activity buses will depart from Preston High School at 5:15, instead of 5:45. Again, the buses will be departing PHS for those who participate in after-school functions 30 minutes early to be able to get out before traffic begins coming in.

Good evening East families. This is Principal Ryan. A few reminders before we head off into the long weekend. No school on Monday for Labor Day. Softball is holding practice every Saturday throughout September (weather permitting) from 10 am to 12 pm at the upper field. All are welcome to attend these flex practices. Families and students please make certain you've reviewed the student handbook carefully available on our website at https://tinyurl.com/TAEPhandbook. The signed student handbook acknowledgement is now due. Please return to your student's homeroom teacher. A copy of the signature page is included as the last page of the online handbook. Next week middle school students will complete diagnostic testing on Tuesday and Thursday with make up days on Wednesday and Friday with the principal/dean of students. Students must bring laptops charged and ready for testing. Also next week, our volleyball team will host South Preston on Wednesday, September 4th at 6 pm with cow patty bingo the same evening. And finally, please remember our doors do not open until 6:50 a.m. (supervision is not available before that time and students should not be dropped off outside to wait) and our last pick up is 2:35 p.m. We will NOT allow anyone to pick up student's in the office after 1:30 p.m. After that time, pick ups will only occur in the car pick up line. And anyone entering the building must have a government issued identification. We appreciate your cooperation with our policies. Have a wonderful, safe, and restful holiday weekend.
Don't forget to join us tomorrow evening for the opener of the Knights 2024 Football Season. Our Knights' Football Team will not only be representing PHS in their season opener at home, but the WV Army National Guard in the kick-off to the WVARNG Gridiron Series. This team was chosen as they show grit, determination, and represent the Army's values every time they take the field. So let's pack Knights Stadium this Friday and show Hampshire and the state what being a Knight is all about.

September Breakfast and Lunch Menus - 2 "New Item" Days - Following these days, surveys will go out to see if these are items we want to permanently add into our rotation.
