Preston County Schools will dismiss all schools one-hour early today, Thursday, January 6th and all after-school activities are cancelled. In addition, all schools will operate on a two-hour delay for tomorrow, Friday, January 7th. Maintenance, mechanics, & custodians, report on a regular schedule; and all other students and staff report on a two-hour delay. A required class for anyone interested in becoming a substitute custodian for Preston County Schools is scheduled on Thursday, January 13th, 2022 at the Preston County BOE Boardroom. The custodian class will begin at 12:30 PM. All potential applicants must be a high school graduate, pass the online custodian exam given at the class, complete a criminal background check, and will need to submit a bid for the position by visiting https://prestonboe.tedk12.com/hire/index.aspx. Just a reminder that tonight is our holiday-themed parent/teacher conferences. Students and their parents can come anytime between 4 and 7. If you did not fill out your survey, you’ll need to stop in the cafeteria and fill it out before meeting with your child’s teachers. Each student in elementary is to meet with their teacher and their specials teachers. Need to get initials from each and then can go back to their main teacher and get their book and Kona Ice Coupons. For MS, start in HR then meet with all your teachers. Same rules apply. Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be here, as well as they Mischievous Grinch. Plenty of opportunities for pictures. Hope to see everyone there. Remember, books and Kona are available for all students. This isn’t first come, first served, so come anytime.

Next week Terra Alta East Preston is celebrating the spirit of the holidays by having our very own Christmas Spirit Week. Each day, we encourage all students and staff to participate, have a little fun and show off their holiday attire. Next Tuesday, December 21st, we will be having Holiday-Themed Parent Teacher Conferences from 4-7. No need to schedule an appointment, or ensure you're the first to arrive, as we have enough freebies and incentives for all the students. Each student will receive a holiday book for their grade level, as well as 2 coupons to be used for either FREE Kona Ice or Kona Cocoa. To earn this, parents and students must participate, which begins with an at-home survey that will need to be returned as a way to facilitate the meeting with the teacher. We hope to see all of our students and parents attend, which is why we are doing a longer window. Any questions, feel free to reach out.

Next week, Tuesday the 22nd, we will be having a holiday-themed parent teacher conference night from 4-7. An info sheet will be sent home Friday for students and parents to fill out. Those students who return the form and meet with their student’s teacher(s), will receive 2 free coupons that can be used at the Kona Ice Truck, which will be serving flavored ice and hot cocoa. Additional can be purchased. Also, each student will receive a holiday themed book as a special gift. There also may be some special guests on hand for photo-ops. Reminders and updated cell phone policy: Just a reminder that if your student is quarantined, and done so outside of the school, please let us know. Also, be sure with other illness or reasons for absences that you send in doctor’s notes or parent notes. We only accept a parent note for up to 5 days per semester. Cell phones: Due to continuing issues with cell phone usage outside of designated times and inappropriate use during the day from a majority of students, we are revisiting our cell phone policy. Students will be required/asked to place their phones in envelopes with their names on them in the 9th period designated box each morning. It will be locked up during the day and returned each afternoon. Those students who choose not to turn in their phone will be subject to the current policy, meaning that if caught with it, the phone will be confiscated until the end of the day. 2nd offense, parent will have to pick up the phone. 3rd offense, no longer permitted in the building. However, if a student is caught sending negative or inappropriate messages or posting on social media during the day, we will automatically move to 3rd offense consequences. Students are aware of this change. If the situation gets better, they will start to get lunch privileges back.

West Virginia Academy, a charter school in Morgantown, is pre-registering students for the Fall of 2022. The pre-registration deadline is December 15, 2021. https://www.westvirginiaacademy.org/

Just a reminder that our Middle School Holiday concert is this Tuesday the 14th at 1:00 and 7:00. The afternoon program is just for students, and since there’s an evening performance offered and due to Covid protocols, parents will not be permitted to attend the 1:00 show. Stay tuned Monday for additional info as if we have more students on quarantine, it will be rescheduled for a later date. The elementary show is still scheduled for the 22nd at 1:00 with parents being permitted to attend. There will also be a message going out Sunday as it relates to an upcoming parent/teacher night and new cell phone policy for our middle school students.

Preston County Schools are now closed for today, Wednesday, December 8, 2021. Students do not report and all extra-curricular activities are cancelled for today. Maintenance, mechanics, and all AM and PM custodians, including cook/custodians report on a regular schedule and may depart two hours early from their shifts.
