Bruceton Students learn the art of making apple butter thanks to Jason Jenkins, a Bruceton parent and local CPA. According to Principal Jonas Knotts, "we started last year with Jason Jenkins and some of his friends offering to make apple butter at the school for a fundraiser for the 8th grade trip." Knotts said Jenkins group came [to the school], made 100 jars of apple butter and gave the students a demonstration of the process. During the demonstration the students had a chance to stir the apple butter with traditional stirring paddles.
Jenkins' family has been making apple butter for generations. He uses a family recipe, copper kettles, and paddles. When Jenkins offered to do it again this year, Knotts took him up on the offer and it is now becoming a tradition at Bruceton School. Knotts said each class that came out talked with the visitors about the science of how the copper kettles work and about how the use of WV hardwoods is best. It all represents "the heritage of WV and Preston County."
Once again, Jenkins' group made over 100 jars and the 8th grade parents sold it as a fundraiser for the WV tour trip. All 100 jars were pre-sold and there was a wait list. (additional photos are available on the Bruceton School Facebook page)

Good afternoon. Due to a road closer on the Brandonville Pike today, Wednesday, October 4, 2023, Bus 46, Gary Matthews, Bruceton School, will be approximately 20 - 30 minutes early dropping off students on the first run this afternoon.
Due to a tractor trailer accident on Prison Road, students who ride bus 46 will be arriving home late. We do not have an estimated time of their arrival at this point. Crews are still working to clear the road.
