Some second graders with Miss T worked through a read aloud STEM activity today to celebrate Spanish Heritage Month. They read about Pelè, the Spanish soccer king and all of his accomplishments. The kids wrote an informative writing piece about Pelè and used the three new Spanish vocabulary words they were excited to learn- rey (king) campeon (champion) and fùtbol (soccer). Then, they finished the day with an engineering STEM activity where students had to work through the engineering design process to build a soccer stadium for Pelè.

Preston County Schools would like to thank and recognize all of our school service employees in honor of WV School Service Personnel Day (9/22/23)!!! Our service employees are vital to the operation of our schools and as I stated in my opening day speech, I wish to thank our bus drivers who provide a smiling face and needed transportation for our students to and from school, our mechanics who work to ensure that our buses are safe for travel, our cooks who prepare nutritious breakfasts and lunches that are sometimes the only meals some of our student see each day, our aides who sometimes ride our buses to ensure safe travels by our students and who provide needed classroom help to our students and our teachers, our secretaries who help to provide for the smooth and efficient operation of our schools, and our custodians and maintenance workers who help to provide a clean environment in our schools and make needed repairs within our buildings and grounds. Thanks again to all of our service personnel employees!!!!

Mrs. Richards' 3rd graders have made a shrine to Bruce the Bulldog! They went last week with perfect attendance and zero tardies! Will we be able to award Bruce to any other homerooms this Friday? Any homeroom that goes for the whole week with perfect attendance and zero tardies will receive the Bruce the Bulldog traveling trophy! The trophy will be given out on Fridays and each homeroom that wins will be able to keep the trophy the next week. The homerooms that have possession of Bruce can decorate and outfit him with clothes, jewelry, hats, and more!

We still have a few opportunities left for people to Adopt-A-Classroom. It's an easy way to help out our kids and teachers. You can help out with whatever you're comfortable doing. It could be something as simple as sending encouraging notes to the class to keep up their hard work, coming in to do a read-aloud, helping the teacher make bulletin boards, donating supplies for the kids and room, and more. If you're interested, just fill out the information at the following link: https://forms.office.com/r/kyD3eZNLsi We hope this is an easier way for our community to connect with our school, teachers, and kids. We truly have the best community in Preston County

If you weren't able to send in your donut orders and money today, we can still take orders and money through Sept. 20th. That is the absolute deadline for orders and money. Feel free to call Mrs. Susan Moran at 304-379-2593 if you have any questions or need anything. Thank you again to the Lions Club for donating cash prizes of $100, $75, and $50 to the top individual sellers. And thank you all again for your support. We've been using these funds, along with our levy funds and funds from Academic Boosters, to replace a lot of very old student classroom furniture that was in bad shape as well as other projects and items around the building.
