There will be an Open House for all students and parents/guardians on August 20 from 4:30-6:30. We especially encourage all freshmen and new students to Preston High School to attend with their families. Schedules will be handed out with an opportunity to find your classes and meet your teachers, information tables will be in the Great Hall, and an orientation session for students and parents will be at 5:30 in the Theater.
Freshmen Orientation is the first day of school for Freshmen, Thursday, August 22.

A draft professional development schedule for professional and service personnel is posted on the Preston County Schools website scrolling marquee and Facebook page. Any schedule updates will be made in advance of the opening day session at Preston High on Thursday, August 15th.

The staggered start schedule has been updated on the Preston County Schools website, with an alternative staggered start sent to the Rowlesburg staff and students. This schedule did not include PK and K. Those teachers will be conducting visits during the staggered start and will inform parents and students of whether their student will attend on either A or B day. More information will following in the coming days and weeks.

PRESTON COUNTY SCHOOLS FALL HEARING, SPEECH & VISION SCREENINGS
PLANNED:
Preston County Schools will be conducting hearing, speech, language, and vision screenings in our schools. Screenings are scheduled to take place August 28 through October 13, 2024.
Students will be screened are as follows:
• All students entering school for the first time who have not been screened at school.
• All students who have been referred for re-screenings of hearing or speech screenings from the previous year; and
• Any teacher referrals for screening.
Parents will be notified if any student should not pass the screenings.
Those who do not wish their child to be tested must contact their respective school in writing. For additional information, you may contact the Preston County Schools, Special Education Department at 304-329-0580, extension 220 or 239.

Preston County Schools is in great need for an athletic trainer for the 2024-25 football season. Preference will be given to a certified athletic trainer. However, the district may also assist individuals with a medical background including: chiropractor, physical therapist, registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, physician’s assistant, paramedic, or emergency medical technician to obtain a limited football trainer authorization which will meet the requirements.
The individual would have to be present at all scheduled practice sessions and Varsity games as well as home JV games. This position is required and practices and games may not occur in the absence of a trainer. Interested applicants may apply on the Preston County Schools website. Preston High School will hold its first football practice this coming Monday, June 10th at 5 pm. Any interested upcoming freshman through seniors are welcome. Parents & students must park by the bus garage and walk around to the field due to parking lot painting and sealing.

PHS Student Receives State Scholarship
The West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) recently announced the 2024 Albert Yanni Scholarship recipients. Preston County Schools is pleased to announce that Preston High School senior (now graduate) Madyson Phillips is the winner for Preston County. Phillips will receive a $2,000 scholarship to assist with her pursuit of advanced education and/or training related to her career aspirations. Thirty career and technical education (CTE) students statewide received the scholarship. The Albert Yanni Scholarship is a competitive award offered to graduating high school students who are pursuing a professional certification. Students with a high attendance record and strong academics area considered by a scholarship committee at the WVDE.
“These exemplary students are to be commended for earning this important award,” said State Superintendent of Schools Michele L. Blatt. “Their scholastic and work ethic has served them well to open doors of opportunity. I am certain each scholar will find success as they pursue the next chapters of their lives because they can build their futures on the solid foundation established in their CTE programs.”

Public Service Announcement: Mountaineer Food Bank Mobile Pantry will distribute at the Civic Center on Tuesday, June 11th from 11 am to 12:30 pm while supplies last.

Parent/Guardians, It is that time of year again when the West Virginia Secondary Schools Activity Commission (WVSSAC) requires an athletic participation form be completed by parents and physicians for any middle or high school student participating in athletics or band. To help you meet this requirement, Preston County Schools have partnered with Mon Health to provide this service. Parents/Guardians of 7th & 12th graders: Your child will be required to have immunizations completed before returning to school this fall. There is not a grace period and they will not be allowed to enter school without these immunizations. For seniors they need proof of a TDAP and their second Meningitis/MCV4 vaccine that must be given after the age of 16. For 7th graders they need proof of a TDAP, and their first Meningitis/MCV4 vaccine. You can visit our webpage to view the vaccine requirement chart if you have questions.
There will be an organizational meeting for those students who would like to be part of the Preston High Cross Country team. The meeting will be in the PHS Media Center on Wednesday, June 5th at 7 p.m. Parents are welcome and there will be a group run after the meeting.
PCS Employees, for the remainder of this week June 4-7 weather permitting we will be sealing the parking lots/roads at PHS/BOE complex. For Tuesday & Wednesday you will need to park in front of PHS and enter through connector doors to access BOE. All training will still occur at BOE. Be advised the road from intersection around the bus garage to back of PHS will be blocked. Thank you for your cooperation.
Update! Due to weather end of the year bash at Reedsville Park will now be Thursday, May 30th, 6 - 8 pm. Parking available at Town Hall, Old School Pizza, and Reedsville Baseball Fields. Games, prizes, food, drink, cake walk, kettle corn, ball tournament, & shaved ice.

Tonight's Preston High School Graduation Ceremony will take place outdoors at Knights Stadium beginning at 7:30 PM. Graduating senior students need to assemble in the Gym by 6:30 PM. Handicap parking is available behind the school between the school and the stadium. Tonight's ceremony will be broadcast by Mountain Digital at youtube.com/cable7. After continued review of the anticipated weather forecast for both tonight and tomorrow, and based on ongoing consultation with the National Weather Service, the decision has been made to postpone tonight's scheduled graduation ceremony at Preston High School and reschedule the ceremony for Friday, May 24th at 7:30 PM. Graduating seniors will need to report to the school by 6:30 PM.
