This past week was National FFA Week, which always runs from Saturday to Saturday and encompasses Feb. 22nd, George Washington's birthday. This year, the week kicked off on Feb. 21 and culminated on Saturday, Feb. 28th.

The National FFA Board of Directors designated the weeklong tradition, which began in 1948, recognizing Washington's legacy as an agriculturist and farmer. A group of young farmers founded FFA in 1928, and the organization has been influencing generations that agriculture is more than planting and harvesting — it involves science, business and more.

Last week, Preston FFA had a sprit week planned but only were able to do two out of the 5 days due to snow days: Thursday – Morning Chores (PJ Day) and Friday – Blue and Gold or Official Dress.

The National FFA Organization is a school-based national youth leadership development organization of more than 1,042,245 student members as part of 9,407 local FFA chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

This week is National School Social Work Week, where we honor school social workers for their role in helping students navigate social, emotional, and academic challenges. While the entire month of March is dedicated to social work as a profession, this specific week focuses on our school-based professionals, who alongside their teachers, counselors, community members and parents, are helping to shape our future. PCS is lucky to have these individuals working alongside our staff and with our students each and every day.

Mrs. Cool and Mr. Cool are organizing a trip to Wyoming in 2027. An informational meeting will be held March 4 at 5:45pm in Mrs. Cool's classroom. The trip is not school-sponsored and is open to the public.

Preston County Schools is surveying for interest to offer a bi-weekly pick-up for summer lunches (10 milks and 10 lunches every two weeks) beginning on June 16th -All meals are chef-prepared in a licensed central kitchen. They are kid-friendly, nutrient-dense, and include both a vegetable and fruit component with each entrée. They are Individually sealed, 3-compartment frozen meals, that can either be reheated via microwave or oven. (Summer schools will be fed on-site; this is the option for non-summer school participants. Pick-up location is still TBD every 2 weeks beginning June 16th and ending July 28th - 4 pick-up dates, 40 meals and milks total - FREE for all children under age 18 not participating. These meals come 10 to a box, then you'll be provided with 10, shelf-stable milks (5 white and 5 chocolate)

Next week is Read Across America Week, celebrated from March 2nd to the 6th, beginning on the birthday of the beloved children's author, Dr. Seuss. The entire month of March, in fact, is dedicated to reading. Through our Beanstack Challenges, publicizing our local library reading challenges, and regular encouragement from staff to read for 20 minutes a day, Preston County Schools supports the importance of reading and literacy across all grade-levels.
