Today's Board of Education meeting was full of recognitions. Preston County Schools is always happy when given the opportunity to showcase and recognize our amazing students and student athletes. The PCBOE had the opportunity to recognize the PHS Skills USA participants who represented us so great, our always incredible FFA students, and the never disappointing PHS Cross Country Teams. We're so proud of all of these students.
Multiple groups coordinated efforts to recognize our local veterans. Our students spoke of the branches. their sacrifices and skills needed. Another student led everyone in a moment of silence for our fallen soldiers. Veterans were provided breakfasts from the ProStart program and flowers from the Floriculture class. Thank you to all who participated today, we are glad you were able to join us!
Friday, November 8, from 6-9 pm, Mr. Cool set up two of his own personal telescopes and one owned by PHS. These were not your typical home telescopes; they were able to filter and magnify so that students could see the shadows from the rings on Saturn. We could see the color defined in Jupiter as well as 4 of the moons rotating around it. He introduced the Pleaides cluster and other characteristics in the night sky. Thank you, Mr. Cool, for giving this opportunity to our students.
The Preston High Theatre Department presents its fall play, The Play That Goes Wrong! This Olivier Award-winning comedy is a hilarious hybrid of Monty Python and Sherlock Holmes. Welcome to opening night of The Murder at Haversham Manor where things are quickly going from bad to utterly disastrous. With an unconscious leading lady, a corpse that can’t play dead, and actors who trip over everything (including their lines), this will be a night that you will never forget!

Preston High School's Annual Veteran's Day Program:
Please join us as we celebrate our local veterans and recognize them for their dedicated service and sacrifice to our community, state and country. Veterans are invited for light refreshments in the media center at 8:45, following which, they’ll be escorted to the gymnasium for our annual program to honor them. All veterans are welcome to attend.

In response to the recent release of information from the Preston County Sherriff's Office:
On Monday, October 21, 2024, Preston High School Principal Todd Seymour was made aware of a teacher possibly possessing a firearm on school grounds. An investigation into the matter was immediately launched, and Superintendent of Preston County Schools Brad Martin was made aware and advised administration at PHS on next steps, as well as the Sheriff's Department of the incident. Mr. McMillen was immediately placed on administrative leave. Due to this being an ongoing personnel matter, as well as being under investigation from authorities, no other information can be released at this time. Continued student safety and security is and always will be a top priority, and Preston County Schools will be evaluating and re-evaluating its protocols to deter and prevent future incidents.
