PHS Student Receives State Scholarship
The West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) recently announced the 2024 Albert Yanni Scholarship recipients. Preston County Schools is pleased to announce that Preston High School senior (now graduate) Madyson Phillips is the winner for Preston County. Phillips will receive a $2,000 scholarship to assist with her pursuit of advanced education and/or training related to her career aspirations. Thirty career and technical education (CTE) students statewide received the scholarship. The Albert Yanni Scholarship is a competitive award offered to graduating high school students who are pursuing a professional certification. Students with a high attendance record and strong academics area considered by a scholarship committee at the WVDE.
“These exemplary students are to be commended for earning this important award,” said State Superintendent of Schools Michele L. Blatt. “Their scholastic and work ethic has served them well to open doors of opportunity. I am certain each scholar will find success as they pursue the next chapters of their lives because they can build their futures on the solid foundation established in their CTE programs.”

Public Service Announcement: Mountaineer Food Bank Mobile Pantry will distribute at the Civic Center on Tuesday, June 11th from 11 am to 12:30 pm while supplies last.


Parent/Guardians, It is that time of year again when the West Virginia Secondary Schools Activity Commission (WVSSAC) requires an athletic participation form be completed by parents and physicians for any middle or high school student participating in athletics or band. To help you meet this requirement, Preston County Schools have partnered with Mon Health to provide this service. Parents/Guardians of 7th & 12th graders: Your child will be required to have immunizations completed before returning to school this fall. There is not a grace period and they will not be allowed to enter school without these immunizations. For seniors they need proof of a TDAP and their second Meningitis/MCV4 vaccine that must be given after the age of 16. For 7th graders they need proof of a TDAP, and their first Meningitis/MCV4 vaccine. You can visit our webpage to view the vaccine requirement chart if you have questions.

There will be an organizational meeting for those students who would like to be part of the Preston High Cross Country team. The meeting will be in the PHS Media Center on Wednesday, June 5th at 7 p.m. Parents are welcome and there will be a group run after the meeting.

PCS Employees, for the remainder of this week June 4-7 weather permitting we will be sealing the parking lots/roads at PHS/BOE complex. For Tuesday & Wednesday you will need to park in front of PHS and enter through connector doors to access BOE. All training will still occur at BOE. Be advised the road from intersection around the bus garage to back of PHS will be blocked. Thank you for your cooperation.

Tonight's Preston High School Graduation Ceremony will take place outdoors at Knights Stadium beginning at 7:30 PM. Graduating senior students need to assemble in the Gym by 6:30 PM. Handicap parking is available behind the school between the school and the stadium. Tonight's ceremony will be broadcast by Mountain Digital at youtube.com/cable7. After continued review of the anticipated weather forecast for both tonight and tomorrow, and based on ongoing consultation with the National Weather Service, the decision has been made to postpone tonight's scheduled graduation ceremony at Preston High School and reschedule the ceremony for Friday, May 24th at 7:30 PM. Graduating seniors will need to report to the school by 6:30 PM.


Preston County Schools will dismiss 2 hours early tomorrow, Friday, May 24th, the last day of the school year. Have a safe and fun summer! And don't forget to read 20 minutes a day! See you in August!

The Preston High School graduation ceremony is scheduled for tomorrow at Knights Stadium beginning at 7:30 PM. School officials will continue to assess the weather forecast and make a decision on the status of tomorrow night's ceremony by early afternoon. If the graduation ceremony is postponed, the event will be rescheduled to Friday night.

The PHS JROTC Raider Competition last week landed Preston High a 3rd place finish, while Connellsville A Team, placed 1st; Plum High School, 2nd; Northern Garrett, 4th; & Connellsville B Team, 5th. Events included a mile run, rope bridge, relay race, litter carry, knot tying, and a .5 KM road march.

The PCS Board of Education recognized a group of Preston High School students today for their accomplishment in Microsoft Training. Along with their teacher Deanna Daff the students were congratulated by the board of education and Superintendent Brad Martin.

This is a reminder message for parents of students who ride bus 11-20, Bill Knotts, Bruceton School and Preston High. Bus 11-20 will not run, tomorrow, Monday, May 13th.
