Exciting summer opportunity!

Students in After School Explorers have had a busy week! Not only have they been devoting extra time to practicing reading and math skills; they also took time to participate in a trash pick-up on and around our campus as part of the “Make It Shine West Virginia” initiative. Thank you for your service

KES Staff and Families: Please be advised that we are experiencing a phone and internet outage. At this time, we have not been given an estimate for restoration. Thank you for your patience.

Students at Kingwood Elementary School are taking their physical well-being seriously and having fun while they learn about healthy habits, too! Jordan Wilfong, third grader at KES, was a recent monthly winner in Preston County Schools Wellness Challenge, and he claimed a snow scooter as his prize! Meanwhile, March Gatorade Students of the Month were recognized by Miss Kylie last week. These students demonstrated outstanding leadership, teamwork, and performance during wellness class!

Last Friday, Kingwood Elementary School had an art display at Preston High School during the first-ever Preston County Schools Fine Arts Festival! Select students in kindergarten through fourth grade had projects in the show, and those pictured received “Best of Show” from their grade level! Congratulations to Ezra Hibbs (3rd grade), Van Martin (2nd grade), Selena Baker (kindergarten), Reagan Taylor (1st grade), and Addilyn Baker, (4th grade). Special thanks to Mrs. Adams, our art teacher, for fostering a love of creativity in our students and showcasing their talents!

May Menus:
You will notice multiple cook's choice days, which will also be each day in June, so no menus will go out for June as all are cook's choice. Cook's choice are used to either be efficient with inventory to limit on waste, or to try new items, or bring back old favorites. You will also notice that there are two "pre-packaged" days. These shelf stable meals will be tested by students, with a survey for students to follow. In the future, these will be utilized for field trips, brain freeze days and emergencies when there may not be staffing. These meals DO meet USDA school lunch requirements. If utilized more in the coming years, on those days, schools will still also provide salad bars, or other supplemental items. As always, if any questions or concerns as it relates to school meals, please direct those to Justin Hough, Director of Child Nutrition and Wellness, at jhough@k12.wv.us.

Upcoming Important Dates relating to days off or early dismissals:

Kingwood Elementary would like to extend a special thank you to the PHS Medical Assistant students for their planning and facilitation of our first-ever teddy bear clinic! Kindergarten and fourth-grade students were able to act as doctors to a stuffed animal of their choice yesterday as they navigated through several stations where topics ranged from self-care and healthy habits to functions of the body. This hands-on learning experience provided opportunities for both elementary and high school students to put knowledge to the test, clarify misconceptions about healthcare, and effectively communicate with others. We look forward to continuing this activity in the future!
