One week down...

The image may be humorous, but our mission is not.

At Preston County Schools, we understand that when families send their children through our doors each day, they are placing tremendous trust in us. We do not take that responsibility lightly. We remain dedicated to creating safe, supportive, and engaging learning environments where every student can succeed.

As we continue through the next 175 days of the school year, we will remain focused on what matters most - the students and families we serve. Thank you for your continued partnership and trust.

Parents, please be advised that your child should be bringing home a paper packet that will allow you to review and update your child's student information and medical information. In addition, the packet will also direct you to complete a brief online form to update additional student information. Please return these packets so that school personnel can update this information as soon as possible. This is a change from previous years in which information was updated exclusively using an online form. Please contact your school with any questions or concerns with this new process.

Preston County Schools will be conducting hearing, speech, language, and vision screenings in our schools in the months of September and October. These screenings are for students entering school for the first time who have not been screened, students who have been referred for re-screenings from the previous year, and/or any students referred by teachers. Parents will be notified if any student should not pass the screenings.
Those who do not wish their child to be tested must contact their respective school in writing. For additional information, you may
contact the Preston County Schools, Special Education Department at 304-329-0580, extension 3220 or 3239.

As we approach the start of a new school year, let's remember that we don't always know what each other are facing outside of school. If you see someone struggling to make friends or being bullied, let's step up and offer a friendly hello or smile in the hallways, share in a conversation, or invite them to the lunch table. Your kindness might just make a big difference in someone's life, including your own. So this year Preston County Schools, let's remember that "We Are P.C.S. " - Positive, Compassionate, and Supportive. We can't wait to welcome our staff back next week, and to see all of our students' smiling faces on the 24th.

Reminder - Pre-K, K, 7th grade, 12th Grade students are REQUIRED to have the listed vaccinations before they can start school. Without proper documentation, then a student cannot attend until the shots are completed and records are at the school. There is no grace period. We don't want to see your student unnecessarily miss school days. Please contact one of our nurses for assistance, return their voicemails, or contact the health department with any questions. As of today, there are 92 seniors with records still missing of having the appropriate vaccines. It is against state law for them to be in the building without records of the required immunizations. This even pertains to virtual students.

Reminder of vaccine requirements for PCS Students (PK, new enrollments and 7th and 12th grades) - Immunizations are a requirement by state code for student enrollment in WV Public Schools.

Last June (2025), the West Virginia Board of Education (WVBE), members voted unanimously to comply with state law regarding required school immunizations as it is written in W. Va. Code §16-3-4.

To date, the West Virginia Legislature has not voted in favor of religious exemptions for vaccines and continue to comply with the law that dates back to 1937.
