This field day will involve 205 Participants from across our county schools - Grades 4-6 - 75; Grades 7-9 - 75; Grades 10-12 - 55
The awards ceremony will immediately follow beginning at 12:30 PM at the Kingwood Community Bldg., and will be livestreamed on the PCS Facebook Page.

Today's PCS Board of Education Meeting saw both staff and student-athlete recognitions:
Samantha Peaslee, Principal at Kingwood Elementary School was recognized for being named and awarded as a WVDE Superintendent's Rising Leader Distinction .
Bryson McNew was recognized by the PCS BOE for his being awarded the 2025 Johnny Bench Award Winner, establishing him as one of the most outstanding WV high school baseball players, and the top high school catcher in WV last season. Bryson was first team AAA All-State his Freshman season, first team AAAA All-State year, first team Big 10 both years, and lead the entire state in all classes in 7 of 8 hitting metrics last season, and Top 10 in the Nation in 4 of those.
Slaton Manko and Aidan Schmidl were recognized by the PCS BOE for being named as all-state athletes. PHS Quarterback Slaton Manko has been named to the Class AAAA 1st Team All-State Football team at the quarterback position and was also recently named as the Big 10 Conference Offensive Player of the Year. PHS standout WR Aidan Schmidl was also named to the All-State Football team as the captain of the Second Team and was also recently named First Team All-Big 10 Conference at the wide receiver position.



Our students and staff returned from winter break refreshed, focused, and ready to learn—and what a wonderful first week it was! Classrooms were full of smiles, engagement, and excitement as we jumped back into learning together.
We’re so excited to see everyone again tomorrow as we continue building momentum and making every day count. It’s great to be back at KES!

Preston County Schools is now accepting applications for 2026-2027 Pre-K and Kindergarten programs.
Pre-K Registration will be held Friday, January 16, 2026, from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at Aurora, Bruceton, Kingwood Elementary, South Preston, Terra Alta/East Preston, and West Preston Schools.
Kindergarten registration will be held Friday, January 16, 2026, from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at Aurora, Bruceton, Kingwood Elementary, South Preston, Terra Alta/East Preston, and West Preston Schools.
Applications can be found on the Preston County Schools website and dropped off at one of the schools listed above. If you need a paper copy, it is available at the schools to pick up, complete and return to the school. The following information will need to be provided:
• completed preschool application
• copy of the child’s birth certificate from the Office of Vital Statistics
• immunization records
• completed well-child visit form
• dental check form
To register for PreK you need to be 4 years old by June 30. (No Exceptions)
To register for kindergarten you need to be 5 years old by June 30.
If you are registering a Kindergarten student and they are already enrolled in a Preston County PreK then you DO NOT have to register them for kindergarten. The ONLY EXCEPTION is if you are transferring.

The event will be highlighted by remarks from Senate President Randy Smith, Senator Jay Taylor, Delegate Buck Jennings, and Delegate George Street. We hope to see our personnel and public in attendance.

A heartfelt thank you to our PTA for the beautiful decorations that transformed the space and set the perfect scene to get everyone into the holiday spirit.
