Mrs. Vrabel’s 4th grade capped off the year with project-based learning. Each student chose an animal and researched habitat, internal and external features, adaptations, growth cycles, diet, prey/predator habits, and unique facts about the animal. Students could then choose any method to create a visual presentation to teach others about their animals. Some examples included PowerPoints, dioramas, board games, costumes, board displays, and clay sculptures.

From Bruceton Youth League Football: There will be signups for flag football, tackle football, and cheer on June 4th from 4-6pm at the football field.

It's tradition each year on the last day of school that the kids and staff do battle with water balloons and super soakers. Bus drivers will arm kids with water balloons and staff bring their super soakers and both sides do battle as the buses pull out.

We would like to thank our parents, staff, and kids for their understanding and patience as we went on a precautionary 'Secure' status today due to the armed robbery suspect that was spotted in the Bruceton/Hazelton area. While we understand that the delay in dismissal caused inconveniences, our overriding goal was to keep everyone safe. We would like to thank the Preston County Sheriff's Department for providing an escort for our field trip buses as they returned from Big Bear Lake and to provide a presence at dismissal.

Field Day is Wednesday for grades PK-2 and Thursday for grades 3-8. Parents are welcome to join their kids for the activities. All parents and volunteers will need to register that morning at the registration table which will be by the field and marked. Events begin at approximately 8:30 and go throughout the day. Concessions and The Sip Station will be available for purchase. Water will be provided for kids and kids are encouraged to bring their water bottles. Please remember sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat. Guests and volunteers are also encouraged to bring a camp chair.

At this time, we have received an update from law enforcement, law enforcement is in route to escort the buses from Big Bear Lake back to the school. Once the buses return to the school with law enforcement, the school will come out of secure status and begin a controlled release of students. It is anticipated that buses will be delivering students home approximately 10-15 minutes later then usual.

At this time, we have received notice from the Preston County County Sheriff Department that an armed robbery suspect has been spotted in the Bruceton / Hazelton Area. As a precautionary measure, the Bruceton School is being placed on Secure status with no visitors being permitted in or out of the school. In addition, students on the field trip at Big Bear Lake are remaining at that location until an update is received from law enforcement advising them to return to the school. Further updates will be provided once additional information has been received.

Tomorrow our Boosters are sponsoring the annual Color Run. Each grade has a designated time to attend and we have arranged the schedule to accommodate field trips. We strongly recommend that you send a change of clothes with your child that day. The Boosters will also be providing each child with a sweet treat too. In case of inclement weather, the Color Run will be Tuesday, May 23rd.
