Parents/Families Beware of Ongoing TikTok/Social Media Trends:
The latest social media trend (hoax/scare tactic) is called “The Cat in the Hat” and uses AI, costumes and staged video of the popular Dr. Seuss character appearing in residential areas accompanied by unsettling music.
Some posts associated with the trend have included threats involving people, their homes, schools or other locations.
PCS has been made aware that we've had a few students who have been sent requests/messages, etc. from a similar account. If you or your student has come to you with what appears to be any localized messaging to the area of Preston County and/or Preston County Schools, please take that information to local law enforcement for further investigation, as well as contact Nick Schmidle, PCS Safety Coordinator, at nicholas.schmidle@k12.wv.us or Justin Hough, PCS Communications Director, at jhough@k12.wv.us.

West Virginia covers false threats and fake emergency reports under several specific statutes depending on the nature of the claim, such as West Virginia Code §61-6-20 for false emergency reporting and West Virginia Code §61-6-24 for terroristic threats and hoaxes. The home volleyball game against South Preston that was scheduled for next Tuesday, September 8th, has been rescheduled to next Wednesday, September 9th. It will still begin at 6:00pm and will still be here at Bruceton.
Middle school softball flex practice times for this Friday, September 4th, have changed. Flex practice will now be from 4:30 to 6:30 at the youth league field.
Our kids looked great for picture day today! Jostens will have proofs available online for parents to view and make purchases in approximately two weeks. We will notify you through robotext and school social media when they are available for parents to view.

BRUCETON XC SHINES AT KNIGHT NIGHT RELAYS
The Bruceton Cross Country teams traveled to Preston High School on Saturday for the Knight Night Relays. Both our boys’ and girls’ relay teams finished 11th out of more than 50 teams in their respective races. The boys were led by Eli Parker, who posted an impressive 8:29 split and finished 4th overall among nearly 300 boys. The girls were led by Elaina Armstrong in her first middle school race. Elaina ran a 9:31, recording the fastest girls’ split of the night among more than 250 runners. Every Bruceton runner competed hard and represented the school well. We are proud of the effort, teamwork, and determination shown by the team!
Next up: Mountain Holler Middle School Invitational on Wednesday 9/2.

Good luck to our Bulldog volleyball team tonight! They open the season here at home against Philip Barbour. The matches begin at 6:00 and admission if $5.00 for students and adults.
A reminder for our parents dropping off students in the morning: do not try to turn left and block the street trying to turn into the parent drop off line. Go up the street to the lime shed, turn around, come back down the street, and make a right turn into the drop off line.
Good luck to our cross country team tonight at Knight Night Relays at PHS: the biggest cross country meet in the state of West Virginia!

Miss Curran’s class showed off their STEM skills by using mental blocks to build structures, addition and subtraction Jenga, addition and subtraction dominos, and a fun game of Tic-Tac-Toe during their math stations today!

Parents, please be advised that your child should be bringing home a paper packet that will allow you to review and update your child's student information and medical information. In addition, the packet will also direct you to complete a brief online form to update additional student information. Please return these packets so that school personnel can update this information as soon as possible. This is a change from previous years in which information was updated exclusively using an online form. Please contact your school with any questions or concerns with this new process.
