April Menus

Don't forget that after midnight tonight, approximately 2am local time on Sunday, March 9, we spring forward 1 hour. Don't forget to change those clocks that don't automatically change.

Tomorrow, March 7, please note changes to Aurora School's evening run only: Doug Combs run will be approximately 10 minutes late. Students living on Stemple Ridge will arrive home approximately 30 minutes late.
Please check the PCS Facebook, website, and your school's Facebooks as we've had multiple bus cancellations for tomorrow due to illness and a lack of subs. Please check Facebook this evening, and in the morning, to ensure you were not missed. We apologize as we are filling and rotating as many vacancies as we can.

Attendance Matters. Help us, help you. We know that sickness happens, and in most cases, missing school due to illness is necessary and out of our control. However, there are many other circumstances related to absences that occur, and we're always here to help. Attending school regularly is essential to students gaining the academic and social skills they need to thrive. Chronic absence, no matter its cause, has real life consequences for
students, families and society as a whole. Research shows that starting as early as preschool and kindergarten, chronic absence—missing 10% of the academic year—can leave third graders unable to read proficiently, sixth graders struggling with coursework and high school students off track for graduation. Equally important, it affects
personal and emotional development and makes it hard to gain the habit of showing up, which is crucial to success in the workplace. If your child is struggling with attendance, please reach out to your school's administrative team, guidance counselor, or the county attendance director and student support team.

Read Across America Week is celebrated from March 2nd to 6th — it begins on the birthday of the beloved author, Dr. Seuss, who many schools are celebrating with a spirited dress-up week. The entire month of March, in fact, is dedicated to reading. This week, we'll be featuring a different PHS student doing a daily read aloud that our schools can share and watch with their students. First up is IsaBella Miller, a member of the Preston High School's Lady Knight's Basketball Team and journalist-to- be. She chose to read the book titled, My Tooth is Loose. Next week is Read Across America Week! We will have themes each day. We will also be handing out books and prizes from our Book Blast on Monday!

Are you logging your reading minutes on Beanstack? If you don't know how, Mrs. Rembold has posted directions on Dojo, or you can reach out to your child's teacher. The app is very easy to use once downloaded on to your smartphone. Or you child can log on with their laptop or iPad using Clever. We are 1% away from Trailblazer status which earns our school a $100 gift card we can use for new books for the library and prizes for students who participate. Please help us reach this goal! We'd love to have 75% of our students reading each day with their families!
