Congratulations to PHS!!! Guidance Counselor Shelly Pyles and Principal Todd Seymour went to Charleston on October 21st to accept PHS's award of being a Champion School.
Being a Champion School involves meeting 3 milestones:
1. Register for and participate in College Application and Exploration Week; Must also complete the College Application and Exploration post-event survey.
2. Meet the statewide FAFSA completion goal of 60% or increase the previous year's completion rate by 5%. (PHS grew 9%)
3. Register for and participate in College Decision Day and complete the post-event survey.
Great things continue to happen at PHS.

Big cheers for our October Reading Challenge Gift Card Champions 🎉📚 McKenna Kirk (TAEP) and Greyson Plum (South) each read and logged 600+ minutes in Beanstack to be entered into the drawing — wow! Thanks to everyone who logged their minutes and made October a month of stories.
Fun reading tip: Try a 15-minute “mystery minute” each day — pick a book, set a timer, and see how many pages you can read before the buzzer. You might race through a chapter and discover a new favorite! ⏱️🔍
Want in on the fun next time? Keep reading and log your minutes in Beanstack — many more prizes and surprises ahead!

Bruceton Planned Power Outage - On Monday, November 10th, we've been made aware of a planned power outage that will affect the Bruceton School at 1:00 PM. Tentatively, Bruceton School will operate on a 2 Hour Early Dismissal that day. This will not affect high school dismissal. If communications from the power company change before then, we will communicate that the schedule will not be affected, and students will go a regular day. But as of now, Monday, November 10th, is a planned 2 hour early dismissal at Bruceton only.

Today is National Cliché Day. A cliché is an idea or turn of phrase that is considered dull and ineffective because of widespread overuse. We're certain that all of our PCS Math Teachers "Love" the cliché, "Give it 110%." What's your favorite from a teacher or principal, or one you think is most overused?

South Area Bus - Bus 30-25, Craig McGinnis, will be running 25 minutes late this morning.
Aurora Bus Announcement - Bus 64-15, Kristina Matlick, will be running 15 minutes late today.
Just a friendly reminder to set any clocks that aren't automatic back 1 hour tonight before going to bed!

On of the eve of the State High School Cross Country Championships, we'd like to recognize, who we have no doubt will continue her winning ways and become a future state qualifier, Taylor Grose of Terra Alta, Back to Back MS County Champ. PHS has a long-standing tradition of successful runners, which Taylor will be joining the ranks of next year as she continues her running career as a freshman. Awesome job Taylor! Preston Proud!

Join us today Live on the PCS Facebook Page at 9:45A (https://www.facebook.com/PrestonCountySchools) as we send our PHS Knights XC team down south to compete in the 2025 State Championship Meet. It may be Halloween, but the only thing scary awaiting the competition, is how scary-good these runners are. Good luck Knights!

You're invited to our K-5 County Literacy Family Night. This free, family-friendly activity will be fun for students and parents, and a great opportunity to enrich their literacy engagement at home. Please RSVP by Monday, November 3rd (Link Below). Older siblings are welcome to attend and participate, but note that all activities are gauged for grades K-5. Hope to see you there.

Next Week, PCS will be celebrating and recognizing National Red Ribbon Week, the nation's largest and longest-running drug-use prevention campaign. We encourage parents and students to check their schools' individual Facebook Pages for special, daily dress-up themes, as part of our commitment to a drug-free lifestyle.
