Our organizational meeting will be Monday, June 16th at 7:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at the new Cheat River Rail Trail Park between Kingwood and Rowlesburg and will last about 30 minutes. Things to consider... • We offer flexibility for those student-athletes that would like to participate in more than one sport • Differentiated training plans for all abilities (beginner to state elite) • Access to cross-training activities for those that are injured or new to the sport • Veteran coaches who have been with the program for two decades • Championships / State Meet Advancement!!! No sport has won more conference championships or has qualified for states more than cross country (girls - 21 x since 1999, boys - 13 x since 1999) • Only boys sport to win a team state championship in county history. The girls team has been state runners-up five times. • Girls Cross Country is the back to back to back (’22, ’23, ’24) Big 10 Champions • Great gear... Today, June 14th, 2025 is Flag Day. This day commemorates the official adoption of the American Flag by the Second Continental Congress during the Revolutionary War. National flags are considered an important symbol of a nation’s sovereignty and identity, and creating the US Flag was an essential step in forming a state separate from the British Empire. Flag Day celebrates both the founding of an American identity and nationality, as well as the fight for independence.

Dear West Preston Families, After ten incredible years at West Preston, it is with a mix of excitement and sadness that I share some personal news. I will be stepping away from my role as principal at the end of this school year. I have accepted a new position as an assistant principal in the district where I grew up in Pennsylvania. This opportunity brings me closer to family and allows me to give back to the community that shaped my early education career. This decision has not come easily. West Preston has been so much more than just a place of work, it has been my home. The staff, students, and families here have been my extended family. Over the past decade, I’ve watched your children grow, celebrated their successes, supported them through challenges, and shared in so many special moments that I will carry with me forever. While I’m excited for the new role and the chance to be near loved ones, leaving this school and this community is truly bittersweet. I am so proud of the work we’ve done together and deeply grateful for the support, kindness, and trust you’ve shown me throughout the years. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your children's lives. West Preston will always hold a very special place in my heart! With love, Darcie Barno Principal, West Preston School
