With yesterday's weather and today's temps, I'm not so sure Preston County agrees that Spring starts on Friday, but nonetheless, Friday the 20th kicks-off our student Spring Wellness Challenge with lots of great prizes up for grabs. Complete all activities listed from Friday March 20th - Friday May 1st and verify at the link below to be placed in a drawing.

FORMS link will open on May 1st for parent or student to verify their participation and that they successfully completed all activities. Good luck.

PCS Quarterly Highlights - Beat of Excellence - Winter/Early Spring Digital Edition (https://5il.co/3u0rn)
Although our students' and schools' accomplishments are highlighted regularly through Facebook(s) and our PCS Website(s), PCS will now be compiling a highlight of events of an extended period, publishing quarterly. In previous years and editions, our print magazine was funded through additional federal funds we no longer receive. Moving forward, we will print one magazine each year through parent engagement funding, typically at the start of the year, containing important information, documents, and a calendar, but then will quarterly post a "Beat of Excellence Highlight" online.

Calendar and Report Card Changes:
With today's inclement weather day, PCS has decided not to adjust the dates that were more recently put back in place for a Spring Break, and will be using Friday, May 29th (Snow Make-Up Day) as the possible last day for students. This has no affect or change on PHS graduation. Teachers last day in the buildings will now be June 2nd. Also, with today's snow day, 3rd Grading Period Report Cards will now go out this Friday the 20th, as opposed to the 19th.

We will be taking a PBIS incentive trip for the 4th nine weeks. Students who meet the expectations outlined in our student handbook will be eligible to attend. We will follow the same criteria that has been used throughout the school year.

To participate in this incentive, students must:

Maintain positive behavior with no Out-of-School Suspension (OSS) or In-School Suspension (ISS)

Remain in class and avoid removals for disruptive behavior as outlined in House Bill 2890 and Senate Bill 199

Have fewer than four lunch detentions

Cannot be caught with a vape

Earn at least 85% of their PBIS points

Have no confirmed threats of physical harm toward another student (a threat must be directly heard or witnessed by a staff member)

These expectations help ensure the trip remains a positive reward for students who consistently demonstrate safe, respectful, and responsible behavior.

More information on the trip will be released later today or tomorrow.

Happy Pi Day Preston County!!! March 14th is celebrated in many countries as Pi Day, because that date is written as 3/14, and the mathematical constant Pi is approximately 3.14. Today is also Einstein's birthday and recognized as the International Day of Mathematics. Every year, the International Mathematical Union announces a theme for the celebration, spark creativity and bring light to connections between mathematics and all sorts of fields, concepts and ideas. The theme for 2026: Mathematics and Hope.

Thales, the first Greek Mathematician and philosopher said, "Hope is the most universal of all human possessions."

More than 2,500 years later, we can also say that mathematics is one of the most universal human possessions.

Connecting hope and mathematics creates opportunities for deeper insight and knowledge. Mathematics gives us hope to understand reality and truth clearly, share common definitions, learn cooperation, use data responsibly, find win-win strategies, and more.

Even if you're just looking for an excuse to eat some pie, today is that day too.

PRESTON COUNTY SCHOOL CALENDAR UPDATE AND CHANGES:
Preston County Schools would like to provide an update related to our current year academic calendar. This will be reflected with an updated calendar on the county page later today. A waiver request of the 180-day requirement was submitted by Mr. Martin on March 6th for a waiver of (4) dates that were missed due to weather during the last week of January that were a part of the Governor's emergency declaration. The waiver has been approved. As a result, the last day of school for students will be Thursday, May 28th if the district has no additional snow days between now and the end of the school year. This will also allow Tuesday, April 7th to now be a day off of school for students and 200-day staff for an extended Easter Break as it was previously scheduled to be prior to the snow. If we have any snow days for the remainder of the year, announcements will be made on needed calendar adjustments.

Due to scheduling conflicts, South Preston will administer the end-of-year statewide summative assessment (GSA) during the week of May 4 for students in grades 3–8.

If at all possible, please avoid scheduling vacations or appointments during this week so students can be present for testing. Testing typically concludes by 12:00 p.m. each day.

Additional information and specific testing schedules will be shared as we get closer to the testing window. Thank you for your support in helping our students be present and prepared.
