This week is National Public Schools Week. More than 90% of students in the state attend public schools, and these schools are meeting the growing needs of students in unique ways. From academics to the developmental, nutritional and socio-emotional needs of children, public school administrators, educators and personnel continue to care for 235,000 public school students in the Mountain State, including those right here in Preston County. Please join PCS in celebrating and recognizing National FFA Week. FFA is the top school-based youth leadership development organization in the country, with more than one million members in all 50 states, as well as two territories, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Formerly known as Future Farmers of America, the organization was rebranded as FFA because it now equips students with the skills to pursue more than 350 careers in business, science, engineering, education, communications, policy, and more. PCS is fortunate and thankful to have such a strong representation and mentorship in FFA and through the Ag programs at PHS.

Students do not report and all extra-curricular activities are cancelled. 240-day staff, not already reporting are to report on a 2-hour delay and all other staff does not report. The scheduled Board of Education meeting will proceed as scheduled at 10 AM .

Today is the PCS Social Studies Fair. As we speak, our individual school winners are presenting and showing off their projects and hard work to the judges for a chance to go to regionals and represent their school and Preston County. Preston County Schools will be dismissing Preston High School 3 hours early at approximately 12:15 PM tomorrow, Friday, February 6th. Buses will then travel to outlying schools who will be dismissing between 1.5 and 2 hours early and delivering all students home on one bus run. All after school activities will be cancelled for tomorrow. The status of activities on Saturday will be announced later.

This week across Preston County Schools, we celebrate our amazing school counselors, whose vital contributions support our students' academic, social-emotional, and career development. This week, and every day, we can't thank you enough for what you do for kids and for the support you bring to all in the buildings and communities you work in. Thank you.
Due to having no in-person school this week and delivery routes being impeded, all schools will be on "Cook's Choice" next week, and we will pick up with the regularly planned menus on February 9th. Each school's Facebook page will have their updated menu for the week.
As of now, following this past week of inclement weather to our state and area, PCS has exhausted all allotted Snow Days and Non-Traditional Instruction (Brain Freeze) Days. Due to the 6th Snow Day called on January 27th, as of now, April 7th is an Instructional Day for Students. Due to the severity of this past weekend's and week's winter storm, if the State Department would choose to grant waivers or exceptions to days' used, we will communicate that and adjust the calendar accordingly.

Maintenance, mechanics, & custodians report on a regular schedule, & all other staff reports on a 2-hour delay. All schools will be open from 10 AM- 12 PM for students who need help & lunches will be served from 11AM -12 PM. Extracurricular activities will be permitted with coaches communicating with student athletes and parents about potential optional practice sessions or competitions.
