Due to the abrupt change in schedule, but oh so thankful for our awesome cooks, there will be menu changes for this week due to our distribution and delivery schedules. Tomorrow, the 18th, will still be Pizza, and cooks will be providing the menus for principals to put out for 2 of the other days, with one other day this week being the scheduled boneless wings. Please see your school's individual Facebook pages or texts for more information. Tomorrow is Pizza though. Welcome back kiddos!!!

Preston County Schools had another great staff opening session on Wednesday the 13th. No matter the challenges and obstacles, our staff are prepared to welcome back our students and give them our best each and every day. We'd like to thank our sponsors, because without them, we wouldn't be able to put on such a successful event and training. A special thank you to Karen Cagle, our guest speaker from the Center for Model Schools, Instruction and Leadership. Karen has been, and always will be a big part of our PCS family, and it's through the work with her and her group that has continued to move PCS forward and do what we do for our kids day in and out. We may be biased, but we have the best and most dedicated staff, and we hope that you see in PCS what we strive for each and every day. Thanks again to our sponsors, our incredible staff, and let's get this thing started.
Thank you -

Preston County Schools is excited to welcome back students next week. However, we will not be able to use our planned staggered start based on advisement from the WV Department of Education. All grade 1-12 students will now be required to attend on Monday, August 18th. All Kindergarten and Pre-K students will now be required to attend on Wednesday, August 20th. There will be no scheduled school for students on Friday, August 22nd for professional development. We greatly apologize for the required change in schedule; however, all available efforts were made to maintain the staggered start schedule without success. Questions and concerns may be forwarded to Superintendent Brad Martin at (304) 329-0580 ext. 3225.

Final Reminder - Pre-K, K, 7th grade, 12th Grade students are REQUIRED to have the listed vaccinations before they can start school. Without proper documentation, then a student cannot attend until the shots are completed and records are at the school. There is no grace period. We don't want to see your student unnecessarily miss school days. Please contact one of our nurses for assistance, return their voicemails, or contact the health department with any questions.
Reminder of vaccine requirements for PCS Students (PK, new enrollments and 7th and 12th grades) - Immunizations are a requirement by state code for student enrollment in WV Public Schools.
During the June meeting of the West Virginia Board of Education (WVBE), members voted unanimously to comply with state law regarding required school immunizations as it is written in W. Va. Code §16-3-4.
The WVBE directed the State Superintendent of Schools to notify all school districts to follow the law that has been in effect since 1937. This is in line with the actions of the West Virginia Legislature during the 2025 Regular Session which did not vote in favor of religious exemptions for vaccines.

For this upcoming school year, West Virginia has enacted a law, House Bill 2003 (
https://www.wvlegislature.gov/Bill_Text_HTML/2025_SESSIONS/RS/bills/hb2003%20sub2%20enr.pdf), empowering county school boards to ban cell phone use in classrooms during instructional time. The bill, passed by the Legislature and signed into law by Governor Patrick Morrisey, aims to reduce distractions and improve student focus and mental health. County boards are responsible for developing and implementing specific policies regarding device use, including storage and consequences for violations. Preston County School's policy is summarized below and will be on second reading for passage at the August 11th meeting of the PCS Board of Education.
