Good morning. Today is the first day of National School Counseling Week. The theme this year is “School Counselors: Standards-Based, Student-Focused.” Did you know that the school counselor has standards for school counseling, just like your teachers have standards for learning? A standard is basically a way to measure excellence or quality. So, at the start of each school year, she uses these standards to develop a plan to support your success in school. She uses standards to help you build a strong foundation for learning. You may have heard of the author, Henry David Thoreau, who wrote Walden. He says that “if you build castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.” That’s what we hope to help you do – to build foundations for your dreams. The standards help us do that. Do you feel like you need to build up your foundation? Come see Mrs. Durst. Remember, tomorrow is “Follow your Dreams” day, so wear your favorite sport jersey or shirt!

Next Week is National School Counseling Week. This is always celebrated the first full week in February. National School Counseling week is a time to bring awareness to the important and unique contributions school counselors make within schools. We will have a theme for each day. Monday’s theme is “Dream Big” so wear your pajamas to school. Your teacher will have a list of the themes for each day if you forget.

Attendance calls will begin Monday, February 5. Calls for students in grades K – 8 will go out at 12 pm if a student was marked absent for a full or half day. Calls for students grades 9 – 12 will go out at 5 pm if the student was marked absent at some point throughout the day (the call will include periods absent). At approximately 7:05 AM, we received notification of a transformer fire that has resulted in a total power loss loss at the Aurora School . It is being reported to be a multiple hour repair. Due to this power outage, Aurora School will be closed today. At the time of the notification, buses were already picking up students. As of 7:10 AM, Aurora area buses were instructed to stop picking up students and to attempt to return students home who have already been picked up. If no one is home to receive students, buses have been instructed to take students to the school, and the school will contact parents to make arrangements to pick up their children.
