Preston County Schools are now closed for today, Thursday, January 15th.. Students do not report and all extra-curricular activities are cancelled. 240+ day staff, not already reporting are to report on a 2-hour delay and all other staff does not report.

Report cards were sent home today, except for Mrs. Sanders class. Hers will go home next week. Parent-teacher conferences will be held on January 22 from 4-6 p.m.

Next Tuesday, January 20th, the 50th Annual County Math Field Day will be held for PCS. (Wednesday, January 21st if cancelled for inclement weather)
This field day will involve 205 Participants from across our county schools - Grades 4-6 - 75; Grades 7-9 - 75; Grades 10-12 - 55
The awards ceremony will immediately follow beginning at 12:30 PM at the Kingwood Community Bldg., and will be livestreamed on the PCS Facebook Page.

Preston County Schools is now accepting applications for 2026-2027 Pre-K and Kindergarten programs.
Pre-K Registration will be held Friday, January 16, 2026, from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at Aurora, Bruceton, Kingwood Elementary, South Preston, Terra Alta/East Preston, and West Preston Schools.
Kindergarten registration will be held Friday, January 16, 2026, from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at Aurora, Bruceton, Kingwood Elementary, South Preston, Terra Alta/East Preston, and West Preston Schools.
Applications can be found on the Preston County Schools website and dropped off at one of the schools listed above. If you need a paper copy, it is available at the schools to pick up, complete and return to the school. The following information will need to be provided:
• completed preschool application
• copy of the child’s birth certificate from the Office of Vital Statistics
• immunization records
• completed well-child visit form
• dental check form
To register for PreK you need to be 4 years old by June 30. (No Exceptions)
To register for kindergarten you need to be 5 years old by June 30.
If you are registering a Kindergarten student and they are already enrolled in a Preston County PreK then you DO NOT have to register them for kindergarten. The ONLY EXCEPTION is if you are transferring.

Hilltoppers Youth Basketball (Terra Alta) - Open to all ages Pre-K - 7th Grade in Preston County - Last Call for registration to play will be this Saturday, January 10th at the Terra Alta Town Hall from 9A-Noon. Games and Practices will be Saturdays beginning January 17th - March 7th.

As we speak, our individual school winners are presenting and showing off their projects and hard work to the judges for a chance to go to regionals and represent their school and Preston County. This is a reminder that our middle school dance will be held on Friday from 6:00–8:00 p.m. Admission is $5 per student.

The school-level Social Studies Fair setup will take place on Monday, January 12, and our fair is scheduled for Tuesday. Winners will be announced on Tuesday.

Parents and community members are welcome to visit student projects after school on Tuesday until 4:30 p.m. During this time, parents may take projects home. Any student who does not pick up their project after school on Tuesday may take it home on Wednesday.

All members of the public are invited to attend and submit questions. The event will be highlighted by remarks from Senate President Randy Smith, Senator Jay Taylor, Delegate Buck Jennings, and Delegate George Street. We hope to see our personnel and public in attendance.

Just a reminder that tomorrow, the 23rd, all Preston County Schools are on a 2- Hour Early Dismissal, and the 24th - 2nd, all schools are closed, with the BOE offices closed the 24th - 26th and the 31st and January 1st. Monday, January 5th, staff returns for a Professional Day, with students returning on Tuesday, January 6th. We want to wish everyone a joyous holiday season and a happy and healthy New Year. May your days be merry and bright, and your winter break full of wonderful stories to tell. We'll see you all in 2026!
