WV Ambassadors Camp

West Virginia Ambassadors Camp, an educational summer camp for eighth grade students, will be held in Charleston June 19-22, 2023.  The program was introduced by the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History with the support of the West Virginia Department of Education for the state’s Sesquicentennial in 2013.

School superintendents submit two nominations and two alternate nominations for each grade level. The students selected will join other outstanding students from around the state for an adventure in West Virginia history, culture and arts awareness.

Entering its tenth year, Ambassadors Camp provides the participants with opportunities to learn more about the state with programs at the State Capitol and about college life while they stay in University of Charleston dorms.

While at camp, the students stay in dorms and eat in the cafeteria at the University of Charleston.  They ride school buses to their activities and have 24-hour teacher chaperones during the camp.

West Virginia Ambassador Camp is completely funded and operated through grants from the Department of Arts, Culture and History, the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission and the West Virginia Department of Education.  Because of this support, camp is entirely free for participants.

The West Virginia Department of Education provides technical support and the camp is coordinated and run by the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History.

Nominations will begin being accepted in March via email to Andrea Thompson at andrea.d.thompson@wv.gov , fax 304-558-2779, or mail to 1900 Kanawha Blvd., E. Charleston, WV 25305. Contact Andrea Thompson for more information at andrea.d.thompson@wv.gov or call 304-558-0220
