The 2026-2027 Proposed Calendar is currently available for public comment. Public Comments on the calendar can be submitted to Superintendent Martin at brrmarti@k12.wv.us. Comments will be received through Friday, April 24th, with the final hearing and vote on the calendar scheduled for the Monday, April 27th Board Meeting.

Reminder - The 2nd Annual Preston County Schools Fine Arts Festival returns tomorrow, April 10, 2026, at 6:00pm. Performances kick off at the Preston High School Theater, showcasing the incredible artistic achievements of our county's students. Don't miss this celebration of creativity and community!

Parents are invited to join members of the BOE and County Office Staff for our annual parent advisory meeting and work session on Monday, April 20th at 5:00PM at the Preston County Board of Education Offices. During this time, you'll be able to share your ideas on how we can better serve you as a parent and our students through our Title 1 Programs and District Goals. This will also be an opportunity to share thoughts on the new, state-mandated, retention policy that will go into effect next school year.

Preston County Schools is lucky to have the administrative teams at each of our schools, and this week, we join the rest of the nation in celebrating our Assistant Principals and Deans. We recognize the critical roles they play in fostering student success, supporting school staff, and fostering positive school cultures. Today and everyday, we say thank you to these "unsung heroes" of our schools who handle discipline, curriculum, and mentorship. Thank you Assistant Principals and Deans.

No fooling around today, at least when it comes to recognizing our Paraprofessionals. Paraprofessional Appreciation Day is observed annually on the first Wednesday of April. Today and everyday, we honor paraprofessional educators, who may also be known as paras, instructional assistants, or teacher aides. Paraprofessionals perform a variety of teaching-related jobs and often assist teachers in classrooms.

Paras may work with students on supplemental enrichment activities, either in small groups or one-on-one. They may also help students complete assignments or practice reading. Paraprofessionals often work with students with special education needs and a variety of disabilities. They may also supervise students outside of classrooms and help teachers with clerical work.

Paraprofessionals work tirelessly each day to support students & teachers, so today we honor them for their service.

Next month begins statewide testing across WV, beginning with our 11th Graders on SAT School Day on the 14th, then our students who take the Alternative State Assessment (WVASA or DLM), with that window opening on April 13th. Attached are letters from Superintendent of WV Schools, Michelle Blatt, on each of those tests outlined:

Parents of Central Preston Students:
An individual attending Central Preston Middle School was diagnosed with pertussis(whooping cough). CMPS Staff and Nurse are currently contact tracing. Once that is complete, an individual message will go out only to those students potentially exposed that says the following (If you do not receive a future text or call, just monitor your child and refer to the attached information sheet):
We are notifying you because your child has potentially been exposed to pertussis.
We recommend that you contact your child's Primary Care Provider
(PCP). The PCP may prescribe antibiotics to reduce their chance of becoming sick (postexposure prophylaxis).
Pertussis is spread by face-to-face contact with a person who has the disease. When a child is diagnosed with pertussis, the physician notifies the local health department. The local health department works to identify all people who have come in contact with an ill
child. These individuals are referred to as "contacts," and the local health department works to ensure they receive antibiotics and are brought up to date on the pertussis vaccine. Children who have not had face-to-face contact with a person who has pertussis do not need to take antibiotics. More detailed information on signs and symptoms of pertussis can be found on the attached information sheet. If you have any questions, you may contact Preston County Health Department directly at 304-329-0096.

With yesterday's weather and today's temps, I'm not so sure Preston County agrees that Spring starts on Friday, but nonetheless, Friday the 20th kicks-off our student Spring Wellness Challenge with lots of great prizes up for grabs. Complete all activities listed from Friday March 20th - Friday May 1st and verify at the link below to be placed in a drawing.

Although our students' and schools' accomplishments are highlighted regularly through Facebook(s) and our PCS Website(s), PCS will now be compiling a highlight of events of an extended period, publishing quarterly. In previous years and editions, our print magazine was funded through additional federal funds we no longer receive. Moving forward, we will print one magazine each year through parent engagement funding, typically at the start of the year, containing important information, documents, and a calendar, but then will quarterly post a "Beat of Excellence Highlight" online.
