Dr. Larry Parsons - Superintendant
Dr. Larry Parsons has been a teacher, counselor, school psychologist, Director of Special Education, Associate Superintendent and County Superintendent. His educational career has been spent and remains in West Virginia school districts.
Dr. Parsons began his career as a teacher of general science and biology at Ravenswood High School and later became a junior high counselor at Ripley, Junior High School. He was a regional school psychologist for RESA VII, Director of Special Education and Administrative Assistant in Marion County and Associate Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in Randolph County. Dr. Parsons was for 12.5 years Superintendent of Mason County Schools. Since July 1, 2009, he has served as the state appointed Superintendent for Preston County Schools. Dr. Parsons has also served as Adjutant Professor at West Virginia University and the College of Graduate Studies in Institute, West Virginia.
Dr. Parsons has served on various State Board of Education appointed committees and is currently serving on the West Virginia School Board Association/West Virginia Department of Education Training Standards Review Committee. His Tenure on the West Virginia Commission for Professional Teaching Standards and Professional Practice Panel covered two appointed terms. He has also served on various Legislative appointed committees. He has presented at various local, state, and national level conferences.
Dr. Parsons is a graduate of Glenville State College with a BA in Education. He obtained his Masters in Counseling and Guidance at Marshall University and his School Psychologist certification from Ohio University. Dr. Parsons completed graduate course work at the College of Graduate Studies and received his Doctorate degree from West Virginia University in educational administration.
Dr. Parsons is the proud father of four children. His lovely wife is also in the educational field, teaching in Preston County.
